  • Former SOCONY/Exxon-Mobil Buffalo Refinery , Geoff Atkinson (guest) wrote 7 years ago:
In para 3, "...As SOCONY became Exxon and Exxon merged with Mobil..." should simply read "....As SOCONY became Mobil".... The merger of Exxon and Mobil did not happen until the late 1990s, well after the Buffalo refinery was closed.

  • USS PTF-17, SidSquid (guest) wrote 8 years ago:
Many mistakes in this article. There is no such designator "USS PTF-xxx" They were not commissioned US Navy ships. PTF stands for Patrol Torpedo Fast. PTF-17 or any other US Navy PTF's were not Tjeld Class boats, that is a Norwegian designation for the hull type. The US Navy boats were Nasty, Trumpy or Osprey Class depending upon the hull number. The PTF's never operated in delta or riverine environments in Vietnam, they operated primarily north of the DMZ in the Tonkin Gulf. While at Great Lakes they did not train "US Navy recruits", CRD-21 trained active duty and reservist crews.

That info is all wrong. South Michigan Ave was a single leaf through truss rolling lift bridge, the photo shows the old Michigan Ave Bridge over the Buffalo River, not the City Ship Canal.
